Vote for Plaid opens door for Tories

Rhodri is right. The big threat on May 3rd is the Tories. That is why a vote for Plaid would be dangerous in Arfon as it just opens doors for the Tories. Redwood, Hague, Thatcher - painful memories.

To be honest I'd worry more about a vote for Labour being a vote for the Tories.

After all they're both right wing British parties with a very similar world view.

I wouldn't be surpriesd if the next Welsh government was a Tory / New Labour coalition.

Two very similar parties.

I understand even Elfyn didn't rule out a Plaid lead coalition during his rant on Dragon's Eye. However I think Plaid will be the third party after May 3rd. If Labour fail as you suggest then Plaid face the big question whether to join the Tories to have their first ever day in some form of power - or the prospect of another four years of opposition Assembly work.

Ieuan (if he survives in Ynys Mon), but if not Ieuan then Wigley as the newly restored/crowned leader, will have to decide on the best step forward.

In the circumstances where Plaid formalise their current informal understanding with the Tories, and decide to take up positions in Government. The record shows the number of times the Plaid/Tory groups have voted the same way - although Ieuan blinked over the budget.

Becoming the third party after May then they cannot claim to be the lead opposition, and feeding off the Tories might be an attractive route to try and re-establish some respect.
